Question 1

How does the weather gate actually work?

We look for a run of days in a destination's forecast that clears every check below. One failing day fails the whole run — a wet day is never averaged away against dry ones. • Every day in the run: daytime high above 70 °F (21.1 °C) and no higher than 100 °F (37.8 °C), with a complete hour-by-hour forecast. A day with missing hours fails; we don't fill gaps with guesses. • No thunderstorm hours, day or night. • An hour counts as wet if the forecast codes rain, drizzle, showers or snow, or gives a 25% or higher chance of precipitation, or 0.2 mm or more of it. Wet hours between 23:00 and 07:00 count at 25% weight because you're asleep; storms never get that discount. • No single day may carry more than 3 weighted wet hours. • Across the whole run, weighted wet hours must stay under 5% of its hours. • Runs are 3–14 days long, found within the next 16 days of forecast. Those numbers are read from our live settings each time this page is rendered. We do not gate on cloud. A warm, dry, overcast day is a good day; rain is what ruins a trip. Cloud only affects ranking. Forecast data comes from Open-Meteo. The 0–10 score built on top of this is explained on the methodology page.

What does "verified" vs "predicted" mean?

Verified windows (Escape now) are scored against the live day-by-day forecast for that destination. They can still change when the forecast does. Predicted windows (Plan ahead) are too far out for any forecast. They are based on the weather actually recorded at that destination in past years for those dates. That tells you what is typical, not what will happen, and we label it that way. The methodology page covers how both are scored.

Can you guarantee the weather?

Accepted Answer

No. Nobody can. A forecast is a forecast, and a historical average is an average. What we do: show you the data behind every window, re-score destinations when the forecast data is refreshed, and drop a destination from the board when it stops passing. We would rather show a short list than a dishonest one. We do not offer a bad-weather refund.

Question 4

Can I book a trip on sunny.day yet?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. The site is in sandbox mode: no booking is completed and no card is taken. Prices shown are supplier rates from the last data refresh, not quotes. The disclosure at the bottom of every page says the same. Real today: the destinations, the forecast data, the weather scores built from it, and the supplier rates as of the last refresh. When booking opens, this page will say so and link to how it works. Until then, nothing on the site can charge you.
